PTM-1645-SNS 16 Channel 8 Zone Superior Power Amplifier
The PTM-1645-SNS is the newest version of ADA's "work horse" PTM-1645, noted as the preeminent power amplifier for multi-room sound. The PTM-1645-SNS provides additional features specifically for today's digital music options that simply weren't around when the PTM-1645 was first introduced in 2003. As one might note, the "SNS" suffix refers to the PTM-1645-SNS's ability to seamlessly tie in with Sonos as well as any other music streaming systems. The PTM-1645-SNS features audio sensing triggers per zone so that once you select the song, station, or playlist, the amplifier's audio channels automatically engage. There is no additional programming required. You simply control the zones running on the PTM-1645-SNS the same way you would control any zone with a self-powered Sonos speaker. The only difference is that any zone running on the PTM-1645-SNS will sound remarkable because the PTM-1645-SNS is a high-current power amplifier.
So why does ADA embrace Sonos or any of the other music streaming music even though we make our own multi-room switchers? Because just like the people at Sonos, ADA loves to promote the concept of "music throughout your home." It is what has driven ADA for four decades.
For example, we love the Sonos commercial (that first aired during the Super Bowl a few years ago) so much, we placed a link to it HERE. If you haven't seen and are considering a multi-room system of any kind, you must watch it. What you may or may not notice are two themes we feel are critical to any conversation when it comes to music throughout your home. We love the way the commercial uses light to show how music can extend throughout your home. We also love the way the commercial mashes several different music styles to show the flexibility of having multiple zones of audio. But just as you cannot get even lighting throughout your home with just a handful of light bulbs, you should not expect to get fully immersive sound through three speakers and one sound bar. Sound, like light, doesn't really work that way.
Instead, we suggest that you place speakers evenly throughout your home. There are so many styles and looks, you won't even notice them once they are installed. Some rooms will need just one pair of speakers while other rooms or outdoor areas may require two-pairs or more. And this is precisely why we designed the PTM-1645-SNS. This one amplifier (for about the price of 8 Sonos Amps), will not just drive 8 pairs of speakers, it can easily drive 8 zones of audio (as many as 8 speakers per zone or up to 64 8 Ohm speakers) with flawless efficiency and superior sound quality bringing a fresh breath of reality to what would otherwise be the perfect TV commercial for promoting multi-room music.
The PTM-1645-SNS also features audio bussing which permits you to take a single Sonos Connect or other source and share its signal with as many as four rooms/zones of speakers. Zone 1 on the PTM-1645-SNS can bus audio to zones 2, 3, and/or 4. Zone 5 can bus audio to zones 6, 7, and/or 8. Best of all, each zone features an audio input level control so that during installation, zone volume levels can be balanced against each other. As you raise and lower volume from the Sonos App, sound will go up down comfortably in all the zones connected to that Sonos zone controller. You don't need a multi-room preamp/switcher. Just a couple of Sonos Connects to begin listening to sound as promised by the Sonos commercial. Naturally, you can add more Sonos Connects to the system so that each zone with its own Connect can listen to its own music. You can also add on additional Sonos speakers or products for areas that aren't prewired for connection to the PTM-1645-SNS.
And while other sixteen-channel power amplifiers exist, none of them come close to the PTM-1645-SNS with respect to performance, size and value. First and foremost, the PTM-1645-SNS sounds amazing because it is a high-current class A/B power amplifier. Able to drive eight independent zones, the PTM-1645-SNS is also stable down to 2 Ohms - making it capable of driving four pairs of 8 Ohm speakers per zone! The PTM-1645-SNS also features current limiting which doubles it's output power when you double up on speakers in a zone. So if a zone has one pair or two pair of speakers, each individual speaker can get the exact same power level.
Naturally, the PTM-1645-SNS isn't just about Sonos. The PTM-1645-SNS is the primary amplifier used with Suite 8x8, Suite 16 and Suite 32 multi-room systems and is one of the reasons ADA is able to maintain its reputation as the brand of excellence with respect to having the best sounding multi-room audio systems. It can also used with a myriad of other multi-room systems because it features both RS-232 and low-voltage trigger control in addition to audio sensing.
The PTM-1645-SNS is extremely compact occupying only two rack spaces (3.5 inches in height) and because it is force-air cooled from side to side, the PTM-1645-SNS is designed to be installed in very tightly packed racks. As for value, the PTM-1645-SNS is built like a tank and designed to last the life of your home.
